About

Don't Burn The Day Podcast

Host, AJ Martens, will bring a unique and informative guest to each episode of Don't Burn The Day otherwise known as DBTD. The host of the show has not let the diagnosis of cerebral palsy slow him down from what it is he wants to pursue, and, in this podcast, you will find out many of the ways that he has succeeded in life.

My name is Aaron Martens, I am a seasoned journalist covering Middle Georgia news and entertainment. I have a bachelor's degree in Digital Cinematography from Full Sail University and certifications in journalism from Michigan State and NYU. What inspired me to become a journalist is that it represents the opportunity to develop and bring stories to life. My experience in media and public advocacy has led me to pursue stories that bring the struggles of everyday people to the forefront. Through journalism, I have been introduced to different cultures and perspectives that taught me how to see people as they are. The audience for my work includes young/middle-aged adults looking to educate themselves about the markets, residents and local community members who may have their own stories to share, and anyone who follows the tech/music industries, and how they meet with key trends in popular culture. This content focus is right for new media journalism because it emphasizes real-world events and experiences or how people relate to the broader trends around them.

AJ Martens

Growing up A.J. Martens has always looked for a way to tell his story. He first became a photographer graduating from the New York Institute of Photography in 2005. Then moved on to freelance for several newspapers in the Middle Georgia area. A.J. did all of this while never letting a diagnosis of cerebral palsy slow him down. He has always loved the media realm and is always looking for ways to contribute to the disability community.

Growing up, A.J. admits, he hardly ever saw any stories that didn’t glorify the weaknesses of disabled individuals. Since then A.J. has always wanted to “flip the script” and exemplify the personal stories and talents of anyone and everyone he meets. His desire is to educate and inform anyone and everyone he can about what it means to live, work, play and function overall with a disability. Believing that connection and information are vital parts to educating one’s self.

A.J wishes to connect with like-minded individuals. His hope is to “unite over what we live”, showing others that individuals with disabilities are people too. They have normal productive lives, dreams, goals, and yes, they even have struggles just like everyone else.

It’s A.J.’s personal belief that disability is inevitable for everyone no matter who you are and says, “let's face it and embrace it”!

In August of 2019, he created the Don't Burn the Day podcast, Through the podcast He has interviewed great guests like Alisha Searcy from Fashion is For Everybody. He is proud to say that he has built great relationships with many well-known nonprofits and businesses and has had the opportunity to collaborate on and with some amazing projects, since the conception of DBTD.

A great example of a wonderful partnership that he has had the pleasure of being a part of is the Cerebral Palsy Conference that is held every October, presented by Green Mountain Services.

As he looks to the future, he hopes that he can expand his reach and continue to grow his media/digital footprint. He is very pleased to say that currently he has listeners from all over the globe, including England, Ireland, New Zealand, and many more. If you know anything about Don’t Burn the Day or have listened for any amount of time, then you already know that he absolutely loves the interaction and conversation with all of you and he hopes you do as well.

The Don't Burn the Day media value statement promises to value our journalistic integrity in all stories we produce, and we value our audience and viewership on the YouTube platform.

A Message From A.J.

“If you have something that you want to say or a message to share with others podcasting is a great way to express yourself and get your message out to the world. It has opened my world up to friendships that I wouldn’t have had if not for starting the DBTD podcast. I am very grateful that I decided to do so and I encourage everyone to check out our work wherever you listen to podcasts”.
